L'invocation d'Augustine, l'hystérique, 2009

Silver gelatin photographs, prints are approx. 50cm x 50cm

This series explores the role gesture plays in unveiling hidden truths of the self through a dialogue between my performative self-portraits and the photographs of Augustine in the Iconographie Photographique de la Salpetriere (clinical observations and photographic documentation recorded on hysteria during Dr Jean-Martin Charcot's term at the Salpetriere Clinic). *Charcot was one of the pioneers of psychiatric and neurological medicine.

The images below were taken during the exhibition at The University Gallery, The University of Newcastle, Australia 2009 by Gillean Shaw.
